Socket adapters indoor & outdoor

Socket adapters extend existing power connections quickly and easily—without the need for complex electrical installation. Whether for additional connection points in the living area, office, basement, or outdoors, a range of options is available: adapters with switches, combination sockets for Euro and safety plugs, and specialized solutions for residual current and personal protection. This allows you to supplement the power supply to suit the specific application while making it more convenient or safer.

Easily and flexibly expand existing power outlets

Indoor socket adapters offer a simple way to make existing power outlets more convenient and versatile to use. These practical plug-in adapters connect directly to a standard grounded wall outlet and require no additional installation or hardwiring. This makes them suitable for a wide range of applications in the home, office, study, hobby room, or workshop. Depending on the model, they can expand available connection options, accommodate different plug types, or make it easier to operate connected electrical devices. Adapters with a built-in on/off switch are particularly convenient: the power supply to the connected device can be cut off or restored directly at the adapter, eliminating the need to unplug the device from the wall outlet every time. This is advantageous for items such as table and floor lamps, consumer electronics, household appliances, and other frequently used electrical devices.

Combination adapters featuring both Euro-plug and grounded (Schuko) sockets offer a space-saving solution for accommodating different plug types. Depending on the design, such an adapter allows various electrical devices to be connected to a single existing wall outlet. Euro-plugs are commonly found on lamps, chargers, and small appliances, while grounded plugs—often referred to as Schuko plugs—are used on a wide variety of household appliances and electrical equipment. By combining multiple connection options, the existing power supply can be flexibly adapted to suit different devices. A combination socket adapter is therefore ideal for situations where additional connection points are needed, but installing a permanent extra wall outlet is not required.

Additional protection when connecting electrical devices

Residual current device (RCD) adapters—also known as inline RCDs or plug-in RCDs—are inserted between an existing wall outlet and the electrical device being connected. Their function is to monitor the flow of current and cut off the power supply if a residual current occurs. A residual current can arise, for example, if an electrical device, a cable, or its insulation is damaged, causing some of the current to unintentionally take an alternative path. The RCD adapter detects the resulting difference between the outgoing and returning current and disconnects the connected device once the specified tripping current is reached. In this way, a socket adapter with residual current protection provides an additional safety feature during the operation of electrical devices. Depending on the ingress protection (IP) rating, design, and manufacturer specifications, suitable models can be used for both indoor applications and appropriate outdoor settings.

Personal protection adapters—often referred to as inline personal protection devices or PRCDs—are portable safety devices for connecting electrical loads. Like RCD adapters, they are connected directly between the wall outlet and the electrical device and provide an additional layer of safety, particularly when using portable equipment. Typical applications include power tools, electric garden equipment, and other mobile devices used in workshops, garages, basements, or outdoor areas. Many personal protection adapters feature test and reset functions: a test button allows the safety function to be checked, while a reset button is used to restore operation after the device has tripped. When selecting a personal protection adapter or RCD adapter for outdoor use, it is essential to consider factors such as the specified ingress protection rating, the permissible area of application, the rated current, and the rated residual operating current. It should be noted that RCD adapters and personal protection adapters serve as supplementary safety measures and do not replace the mandatory protective devices required for a professionally installed electrical system.
